Documenting WordPad

This is the second article in a series of nine describing the work involved in developing a user guide for WordPad.

2. Outline
Writing the outline took longer than I anticipated, mainly because I got caught up in looking for work. Anyway, now it is done and has already been through a few edit-review cycles, which has sharpened it and made it ready for use in the next phase. Some things are still missing and others may have to be renamed, moved or even removed.
The process of writing the outline I divided in two. First I wrote down all my initial ideas for chapters, sections and other contents which I then sorted in a logical order. This was quickly done and I put the document aside for what turned out to be two full weeks.
Yesterday I picked it up again and also launched WordPad, where I explored the menus and options in detail. The time spent on not working directly on the outline and the exploration-session with WordPad, enabled me to literally expand and polish the outline in a couple of hours. It is in this state - after the second edit-review cycle - I publish it. I know changes may still have to be introduced, but by and large it is done.

Outline for WordPad - User Guide
|
It could be argued that the level of detail is a little low. It is, however, my experience that once I begin writing, the further sub-division of sections comes naturally - more or less.
